If you enjoy the Regency romps of Georgette Heyer and prefer your heat levels scorching hot, you'll love this fun and romantic novella. In this super steamy historical romance, the Earl of Blythe turns the tables on a meddling Regency miss. Determined to save her cousin from certain ruin at the hands a notorious rake, Miss Heloise Merrill impersonates her cousin and takes her place at the 'Chateau of Debauchery.' She intends to convince the rake – Sebastian Cadwell, Earl of Blythe -- to turn his attentions elsewhere. Deprived of his intended guest, Sebastian decides to provide the meddling Miss Merrill a much deserved set-down. But when things take a decidedly hot turn, he finds he wants to go beyond a simple set-down. Can Heloise stand her ground or will she surrender to the rake? This paperback version also includes An INDECENT WAGER.

Surrendering to the Rake A Steamy Regency Romance Volume 1 Georgette Brown 9781942822301 Books

SURRENDERING TO THE RAKE is the steamy version of Em Brown's erotic romance "Submitting to the Rake" which was originally published by Ellora's Cave in 2012. I'm assuming this version is considered tamer than the other, but was still a sexy and spicy read nonetheless. It's a bit shorter than I like a novella to be, but luckily a little longer than what I'd call an actual short story. It's the first book in the "Chateau Debauchery" series and ended at location 1013 of 1056 on my kindle device.

SYNOPSIS: At twenty-five years old, Miss Heloise Merrill is more concerned about her younger cousin's reputation than her own. Which is why she intercepts an invitation to the scandalous Chateau Follet and attends in her cousin's stead. She'll convince the Lord who sent the invite to leave Josephine alone, and then be on her way... Sebastian Cadwell, the Earl of Blythe, is a thirty-two year old infamous rake and quite shocked to find an uninvited woman waiting for him. He decides to provide the nosy Miss Merrill with a little punishment, but soon discovers he wants her pleasure and total surrender instead. Now it's Heloise who may need rescuing, and in more ways than one...

MY OPINION: I actually liked this story which was a quick and entertaining read. It was very well written, especially since I still consider it to be a little on the erotic side. The romance between Sebastian and Heloise does move fast and the sex scene has light BDSM (bondage & discipline) elements, but the characters were nicely developed and I liked them as a couple. Their relationship isn't completely resolved at the end, but instead suggests the possibility of a future. SPOILER ALERT: Sebastian is not celibate after he and Heloise's time together concludes. Although he doesn't technically cheat, I'm not at all fond of watching a hero bed other women. Overall I still enjoyed the story though and look forward to reading "That Wicked Harlot" next.

Surrendering to the Rake A Steamy Regency Romance Volume 1 Georgette Brown 9781942822301 Books Reviews

Was she trying to save a cousin or obtain a taste of what she had never experienced before? She may have started with thoughts to save her cousin's reputation but she quickly responded to his touch and found she desired more of him then he seemed to want to offer. Read this short quick story to find out what happens next! You will enjoy this book.
I rarely rate books low. As a matter of fact I normally rate the books I love (4-5 stars), so I guess it is time to start doing some reviews of those reads that are simply not good in my opinion. There was no depth to this one. Thankfully it was a quick read, so I didn't find myself skipping chapters, but, frankly, this just wasn't worth my time. -(
This story was the biggest tease ever. It felt like the writer poured everything into the first few pages, then got tired of writing and abruptly ended it. If you want to read something in as little as 20 minutes from beginning to end, then this is the one. I am disappointed but can't complain too much as it was a free read.
Surrendering To The Rake is my first book by Georgette Brown, but won't be my last. Ms. Brown has delivered a well-written book. He characters are outstanding. Heloise and Sebastian's story is packed with drama, humor and sizzling hot sex. I enjoyed this book and only wish it was longer. Surrendering To The Rake is book 1 of A Steamy Regency Romance Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I Loved this book But it was entirely too short. You barely get into the book and it's over so this is more chapter then a real book and I definitely won't pay 399 for another one.
I was shocked that the story had no plot, really, no story it ended before starting it was a slam bam thank you mam. Very very disappointed
This is exactly what a person wants in a one-night, easy read with a little bit of spice and a little bit of romance. It was a bit simple, but there's only so much you can pack into a 160-page story. I feel that the author did a good job of keeping the writing of high quality, while keeping the tale itself very straight-forward. I like that the ending has a bit of hope and possibility left in it.

I rate this three stars mostly because I didn't like how Heloise was treated as a fallen woman after her interlude with Sebastian. Her cousin treats her very differently, almost meanly, and that was unpleasant. Heloise's heart was in the right place, wanting to protect her cousin and that was never really given any consideration. Sebastian speaks down to her, her cousin is in no way grateful to her, and her reputation would be destroyed if her actions were made known. On the one hand, that is somewhat true to the culture of the time and place, but on the other hand, it was kind of just cruel. I enjoy spicy romances where people are unapologetically passionate and true to themselves. It felt like Heloise was being punished a great deal of the time. I almost stopped reading as a result of that, honestly. It was only my personal rule of never not finishing a book that let me power through.

I am glad that I powered through, I have to say, because the end of the book was very good. So, overall, three stars for me.
